Aro Yeshé is depicted here with his dorje and drilbu (rDo rJe & dril bu – vajra & ghanta). These implements are paired with his damaru – which in this case is a töd-nga or skull drum. Khandro Déchen comments:
Usually the vajra and bell together are the symbols of method and wisdom – but when they are set along side the drum – then the bell becomes wisdom in relation to the method of the drum. On its own, the drum is also both male and female – as are both the vajra and bell. The symbolism recedes and recedes – depicting the indivisibility of
form and emptiness, as well as their dance.
