Kyabjé Chhi’mèd Rig’dzin Rinpoche

Throughout his life Chhi’mèd Rig’dzin Rinpoche had been known for his magical abilities and power over the weather. In Tibet he averted many hailstorms that would have ruined harvests and also in India he has caused similar changes in the weather. Ngak’chang Rinpoche relates that:
Many remarkable and inspiring reports followed Chhi’mèd Rig’dzin Rinpoche’s visit to Tibet in 1987, and I feel it important to recount one, as these miracles were not only witnessed by over a thousand Eastern Tibetans, but by the Chinese officials who saw fit to make comment on them. At that time Chhi’mèd Rig’dzin Rinpoche consecrated the great chörten at Sér-ta. 20,000 members of the red and white sanghas together with 100 incarnations and khenpos and 15,000 lay people gathered in the largest valley of Kham – Sér-ta Gor-gon Thang to witness the consecration which began at ten in the morning. Chhi’mèd Rig’dzin Rinpoche invoked Padmasambhava, Yeshé Tsogyel, Khyé-chung Lotsa, Nuden Dorje, Tulku Tsurlo Rinpoche, A’phang gTértön, and Kyabjé Düd’jom Rinpoche. After this invocation an enormous rainbow appeared across the Sér-ta river arcing across the entire valley of Gor-gon Thang. The rainbow remained visible to the assembly until four in the afternoon. While Chhi’mèd Rig’dzin Rinpoche was conducting the consecration, a translucent white ring encircled him and the chörten. Within this ring of light three rainbow coloured spheres appeared, and those gathered saw many different manifestations within these thig-lés. When five white vultures wheeled around the chörten dancing in flight, Chhi’mèd Rig’dzin Rinpoche threw a katag into the air and it remained suspended in the air above the chörten for the rest of the day.
