Ngak’chang Rinpoche relates the following:
When Chhi’mèd Rig’dzin Rinpoche stayed at my house in 1988 we had a long and interesting conversation about Khordong and the Sér-ta Valley in which Khordong was situated. Rinpoche told me a lot about his early life – some of which I hope to make available in the future. He told me of his astonishing training with Tulku Tsurlo Rinpoche and of the many aspects of his training. He was—at the end of his training—not only a master of all aspects of Vajrayana, but he was also able to design and build every aspect of a gompa with all its functional parameters. He was a master of four independent acupuncture systems, a Sanskrit master, and the master of numerous other subjects beside.
After his tenth year, Chhi’mèd Rig’dzin Rinpoche went on his first pilgrimage to Lhasa, where he received many empowerments from Rig’dzin Chenpo Nyam-né Dorje and many other Lamas. After two years of empowerments, instructions and practice, he returned to his Gompa of Khordong to complete his training with Tulku Tsurlo Rinpoche. He also trained under Ba-né Tulku Ögyen Ten’dzin, Khenpo Sang-thar, Khenpo Lödrö, Tulku Chö-kyi Gyaltsen, Khordong Khenpo Lo-tö Jig’mèd, and other great masters of the time. He studied philosophy, logic, grammar, kyil’khor, astrology, and all aspects of Vajrayana under the direction of Tulku Tsurlo.
